Power of Attorney
Authority to act legally on behalf of another person. Rarely needed in an honest sale; a red flag when a buyer requests it.
A power of attorney is the instrument through which much elder financial exploitation occurs. A new POA appearing suddenly in connection with a home sale — particularly one urged by a helper — requires review by an elder-law attorney before it is signed.
